During the postnatal period, i.e. the first 8 days following childbirth, we visit you regularly to monitor you and your baby. If you gave birth in hospital under the care of a gynaecologist, we provide the aftercare.
You will also receive postnatal care from a maternity nurse. She is an invaluable source of support and your first point of contact during childbirth and the days thereafter. If things do not go as planned, she will consult with the midwife. We remain closely involved and responsible.
Breastfeeding advice from lactation consultant Myrte van Lonkhuijsen
If you wish to breastfeed, you can direct all your queries to Myrte van Lonkhuijsen; the lactation specialist with whom we work closely. She offers additional breastfeeding guidance, hosts breastfeeding information evenings, and can offer support in terms of any queries and uncertainties you may have during the postnatal period and in the months following childbirth.
As your midwifery provider, our practice retains responsibility during the first 8 days following childbirth. Around day 5, a nurse from the clinic will visit you at home to carry out your baby’s heel prick test. If you still have queries during this postnatal period, you can always contact us via mobile number: 06 – 54620724. Naturally, if you have issues or concerns after this period in relation to pregnancy or childbirth, you can still contact us, regardless of the fact that care has ‘concluded’.
