If you want to have children, it is advisable to prepare well, by gathering information, by having people inform you, but also by observing a sensible lifestyle.

This is why we also have tips for you if you would like to have children.

  • Do you want to become pregnant? Start taking folic acid and increase your intake of vitamin D, even before you become pregnant.

  • Do you use medication? Consult your GP as to what you can and cannot use if you want to become pregnant.

  • Opt for a healthy lifestyle; eat a healthy and varied diet, stop smoking and using alcohol or drugs, and try to achieve or maintain a healthy weight.

  • Avoid raw and semi-raw products, such as meat and pre-packed fish, as well as products with a high vitamin A content, such as liver.

  • Always wear gloves to do the gardening or clean the cat box.

Questions if you want to become pregnant

Everyone who wants to become pregnant has questions. These could be very specific questions based on your personal situation or more general questions. In any case, a personal reply is always pleasant. Pop in if you would like to know more or would like to share any questions/doubts with an experienced midwife. We will be happy to provide the necessary information and answer all your questions. Such as:

  • Can I become pregnant at my age?
  • What is the impact of my unhealthy eating patterns?

  • What are my chances of having a child with spina bifida if my mother-in-law experienced the same?

  • How long will it take to become pregnant after I stop taking the pill?

  • How will I know if I’m pregnant and when I ovulate if my cycle is very irregular?

  • What is the impact of the medication I take on my desire to have children and possibly at a later stage on the unborn child?

  • How do I know if I am a carrier of a genetic disorder?
  • And any other questions you may have regarding wanting children…

In addition to answering these questions for you, we can also advise you on what to do in your situation, and possibly refer you to a specialist if that would be sensible.
